Sometimes a glittering career hides some of the saddest stories. Lolo was able to achieve her current place of prominence after years of hard work and perseverance. Jones grew up with a poor and difficult life being the daughter of an unwed mom with five children. The mother of Jones moved around constantly and even lived in the church basement. Jones' nomadic lifestyle made her change school every year up to she reached high school. Jones was able to move away from her mom to Theodore Roosevelt in order for her to focus on her interest in track. Jones lived in four different homes during her high school years in order to study in a single location. Jones also performed as a cellist for the orchestra of her school. In high school, she won the Gatorade Athlete of the Year Award from Iowa Track And Field. Jones began her career at the college level as one of the top hurdlers.
